Starting to Unbox Not Another Box and Pack Attack - Dollarama 100 Magic Cards

So first, let's go through the second box of goodies Mike from Not Another Baseball Card Blog sent me last week.

First up....1987 Donruss. Not a set I have much of, about 40 cards, and Mike more than doubled it adding about 50 more cards to the set. I am not a big fan of the border design, but it 80s...it's late 80s....I can see this set coming along for completing at some point...

I like the retro look of those old Pittsburgh unis. Some other stars of the day and Hal McRae....definitely one of those playuers I always felt I saw too many cards for. Not sure why, just always seemed to be in packs back in the day.

1987 Leaf...

Yup, have to have some Canadian content, so a Leaf card will cut it. Funny enough, this doubles the number of cards I have - from one to two! Not sure why I don't have more of these, but that is the way it is.

Next up - 1986 Donruss...

No huge stars in the Rated Rookies subset, but definitely some 80s power in the other cards he sent. Dawson always made for good cards - and had such a great run with Montreal in the day. I am not a big an of the design of these cards, nd wish the colours were team matched, but can't win them all.

1986 Donruss The Rookies...

Just a sample of what was sent - about half the cards in this set now. The colour makes me like the 1986 Donruss base set border colour better, but these are glossy which is nicer in hand.

1988 Leaf...

Although I am Canadian, for whatever reason I didn't see much Lead product in the later 80s, just worked out that way, so glad Mike was able to pull some together here for me. Again, sent more than I am scanning - just wasn't going to scan everything, but a nice bunch here. That Jack McDowell card just seems so wrong as I picture him as a much older vet...oh, and John Ferrell...not my fave  guy either...

There were a bunch more cards, including some Jays which I never expect much of because Mike collects them too, but I will share more tomorrow. To finish off the Mike cards for today, some collection specific keepers...

Error/Variation cards...

I know Mike sent them just for being 1986 Donruss cards, but they got to the error/variation binder for now. I'll move them out and to a set if I try to finish it off later.

As for these...

I don't care that Diamond Kings are a subset - I always consider them like inserts as they are just to awesome not to try and collect by themselves. As for the Esso cards, being a bit oddball in being Esso produced, definite keepers there also. I had a few already, but nice to add some more (and some Leafs which I will show tomorrow!).

Was able to find a couple more of these at Dollarama's lately, so I figured I would crack into another one today. Definitely was looking very downhill early. Through the first 70 cards or so, there was not a lot and no artifact cards that I would keep. Luckily, the last bit went well and I ended up with the following:

Not as many as last, but atleast I ended up with the 5 keepers., all needed.

A sample of the early cards that came out - they always interest me more than the newer. Overall, not as old as the cards in the first repack, but otherwise similar make up of rare and uncommon cards, as well as a couple foil parallels.

This, I did want to highlight. I can understand with these collectible card packs, that there can be duplicates - but 5 of the same card is a bit excessive, especially in a 100 card bag.

Overall, not nearly as good as the last one...but maybe the third will break the time on whether these are really worthwhile. Have to check into that with a future post.
