If only the card was 100 years old...

I've mentioned here a couple times before the like of newer (read - cheaper) cards of older players because I won't be one to collect cards from the 50s or earlier - or atleast not in any real numbers. Well, lucky enough to touch on another such card today.

Highlights:

The usual (in a good way) suspects in getting a couple new to me McDonalds cards - these from 2007-08 and including Anze's "first year" card. In addition, had to add in the 2005 Baseball Classics cards that add to my collection - both solid pitchers. Bob Feller, born in 1918 - geez - almost 100 years ago - winning 266 games over about a 20 year period with the Indians from the mid 30s to mid 50s. Jim Bunning pitched from the late 50s through into the 70s and won close to 250 games.

The rest
Keepers:

I am sure there are some cards these days similar to the Presidents' Trophy Upper Deck hockey card, but not that really come to mind. Might see something like this in an insert set these days...

Traders:

Hey! It's my favourite (as far as basketball set completion goes) basketball player - Kevin Garnett. Guess this means he won't be the hold out in completing Ultra 2004-05, if it happens. Actually, really like the photo on this card too as it's always nice to see someone truly enjoying their work - smile and all. I could do without the Austin Powers cards, as none of these fill the last few holes on that "set", but can't win them all.

Through 4720 cards:

  1. I too love seeing vintage players on non-vintage cards, especially when it comes to hockey. I just don;t have the budget to add super old cards of some of those guys.

    1. I am right there with you on that one. I don't have the budget to spend big on true vintage either - atleast not until the kids are of the family payroll, and that is a long while coming...

  2. I don't think you will have much luck completing ultra as it has 14 SN rookies as part if the base set. Not a fan of that concept myself, and you only got one or two in a hobby box. I did my box when the set was new I. 2004 and I can't remember if I got one and another as a single or two in the box.

    1. Fair enough...though now I am curious if I will come across one or two of them anyway. It does annoy me when they put cards like that in the base set. To me, base set should just be equal chance cards in all packs - if it is a parallel or insert fine, but don't short print or serial number "base" cards...
