1993-94 Leaf Hockey

When it comes to pulling cards out of a purchased lot, one of the best things you can do is find a set you really like, that you don't have a lot of, and that's what we have today.

The scans don't show the foiling that well, but the names are easy to read, the front design is simple, you get a good team logo on the front, and a full photo - I mean, not much more you can ask for in the design. Heck, even the Leaf logo, which is a bit over sized, doesn't interfere with the photos, so they placed it well.

With the backs, the stats are a bit lacking as I like full career stats, but the set gets bonus marks for the team specific background shots to the second player photo. I mean, even without a player imposed on the back, you see the landmarks, you know the city - at least for the most part. A very neat way to do it - and a team set would be matching too with similar backgrounds.

About 60 keepers for my set build, and only 10 dupes makes for a great showing to me. Heck, I'll even OK the NHL Awards cards being horizontally done since they are nicely structured too!

For anyone else interested in building the set, sorry I don't have more free to trade, but here are the few up for grabs...

  1. This might be my favorite hockey set ever. It's definitely in the top five.
