Feeding the Habit and making a box

Two different things today that I can't really tie together too well, but first we start with a trade package from everyone's favourite habit helper over at $30 A Week Habit who connected with me for a trade on TCDB, and I have to say, Robert was extremely generous.

When doing the trade, honestly, I didn't really look at the what I was getting as much as just happy to get rid of cards, and that it was Robert so I accepted once I had the cards pulled, and plum forgot about it until the cards arrived.

Oh, and the Jays did come...

Plenty of parallel goodness, even from the Gold variety of the early 90s which, I really don't have too many of. I really love the Cito Gaston card for it's simplicity and how well it conveys what I remember of the man. Definitely my $1 Jays manager of all time, if nothing else than because he was THE manager when I was most into the Jays as a kid.

I have also mentioned Drabek as having a soft spot for me given I enjoyed watching his dad play as a kid.

A bunch of parallels out of the early 2010s Topps flagship sets too. I only had one or two Jays of the different parallel colours like the green and red, but they have plenty of good company now. Same can be true about...

these boys in blue. If there is any colour parallel for the Jays that I would want to have all of - it would be this blue for obvious reasons. The DeRosa card still makes me laugh, regardless the border colour because with the football, it just makes the card that bit different and memorable.

Amazing cards, and much appreciated adds to the collection - huge thank you for helping my habit!

Separately, I was at Indigo a while ago and noticed a bunch of packs which were packaged in single hanger containers for $1.49 each. They were of a couple sets which I was interested enough in that I picked up 10 packs from two different sets (more of one than the other)...

Two sets that I like (truthfully Artifacts more so, which is why I picked up 8 instead of 2 of Champs).

For interests sake, I am going to treat these as an Indigo blaster, and see how they measure up. Probably not all that great in so much as they are all retail packs, but we shall see.

I will say this much, in opening the packs and getting them out of the packaging, there were a few of the Retail packs of Artifacts which either have something really nice or some nice dummy blank cards...but I stuck them to the back of the pile, so time will tell.

Today, let's take a look at one of the Champ packs to start. Being retail, I am honestly, just expecting a whole bunch of base cards from these...but points again are...

Base card - 1 point (yes, all cards get a point)
Base card need - 2 points
Base variation card - 20 points
Base card Toronto card - 5 points
Base variation Toronto card - 50 points
Insert Card bonus - points based on odds - if 1 in 4 - worth 4 points, double if a Toronto card

Four cards in the pack, here are the first three which are base cards. A nice design for a Leaf fan given the blue colouring, but no Leafs here. A decent enough design which stands out compared to most other products and has a nice vintage feel which they are going for of course.

The last card is also a base card...but come one every two packs...

Mini! There is part of the base set which is all minis, though they fit into subsets - this one coming from Historical Figures as seen on the card. This is where I get my US history these days - hockey and baseball cards.

A fair enough start for what these packs will be.

1 Pack, 4 cards, 12 points.

  1. I never noticed how good Jays looked in those Walmart blue parallels! And they look even better when you have a bunch of them grouped together like that.
