Picking Up

More 1991-92 O Pee Chee packs today, and the question - which is a better core team, first or second pack today? Which bunch is better to start a team around?

When it comes to hockey, a lot can be done with a strong goaltender - sure you need to have a solid team in front, but a good goalie can steal some games. Jon Casey had some solid years, but not the longest of careers. He had 30 or more wins in a season, twice in his career. A solid enough hand but not Hall of Fame quality. Duchesne and the classic O Pee Chee "Now with" card, show another solid player and Janney could provide a bit of leadership and strength on the front lines.

Yay for the Toronto team card for keeping in my collection, but let's ignore for this comparison.

Well, the goalie tandem here is a great one, so definitely a better starting point. Oates outdoes Janney and throwing Hatcher in to boot, I'd go with the second pack myself if I needed a team starter pack.

So far, these O Pee Chee packs are providing what I happily expected, maybe only a few keepers for the collection, but a fun trip down memory lane of players from my childhood.
