The Pens Were Good

Just a reminder, if you didn't know it, the Penguins were a great team back in the early 90s. I mean, some reminders here for you...

Does anything need to be said about Jagr who had a career that seemed to last for 50 years. His time in Pittsburgh was great and obviously goes along with Super Mario's time there as well. You also have Larry Murphy who was a great defenceman.

Kevin Stevens was a great part of the team as well. Might be part of the reason they had those Stanley Cup wins in back to back campaigns. I don't know if that is why, but as much as I loved Gretzky as an individual hockey player, behind Toronto, it was Pittsburgh that was my second favourite team. Some will say because of the success at the time, but it was really the teamwork of the starts during the period which just so happened to lead to success.

A couple Leaf pick ups between the packs, but first pack gets the win to me as far as the best starting group for a team goes. I'd still say that even if you take the entire Minnesota team in the second pack.

  1. 5 of the top 16 scores of all time played on those 2 cup winners Jagr, Lemieux, Francis, Recchi, Coffey. In fact 6 of top 16 all time score played for the Pens and won a Stanley Cup with the Pens (Crosby) - No other teams in all the sports can make that claim - Though the Lakers are close James, Jabbar, Chamberlain, Bryant, ONeal and West - 6 of the top 31 NBA scorers each winning a championship

    1. A very cool comparison and yes, the Pens have had a number of great players and to have that bunch at the same time was awe inspiring to see. Lakers being close as noted makes sense as far as if I was thinking NBA, it would be the Lakers.

  2. Those early 90's Penguins were awesome to play in those EA Games. Stevens, Lemieux, Recchi, Francis, Jagr, Murphy, Coffey, the list of studs goes on and on and on.
