Just One...and Leafs

So, if I am going to pull a bunch of cards from the COVID lot, which are all going to be from early 90s hockey, chances are, I am not going to get much to keep...and that's the case today.

Happy to get a few Bruins to pass along, but 1991-92 Parkhurst is a set I don't need too much from, so all dupes here. Not even in need of many UER cards for the error collection.

Another Joe Sacco card though, so not all a total loss I guess. Now, 1991-92 Pro Set Platinum, I still have a little bit of work to do on, but not much help here today, just one keeper...

that would be Duchesne in the bottom left above. Now, that said, I still love the Krushelnyshi card best, not only because it's a Leaf card, but that has to be one of the best ugly mug shot faces I have seen on a hockey card!

Only one thing better than getting one more copy of the Krushelnyski card....is two!

2009 Topps Baseball

Well, here is something that isn't hockey, but is another nice bunch since this is one of the flagship baseball sets from Topps that I would like to actually collect, but don't have a bunch of. At least after today, I have a little bit more!

I think my only complaint on the front design is the foil, and that's just because my vision makes it harder to read the foil on black. That said, I like the white border, the minimal impact of the name banner, the simple home plate logo stuck on the front, and the discrete Topps logo positioning, all makes for a nice looking card.

Heck, the backs are pretty great too. Personally, the card number font could be slightly better, and the curved info line across the top isn't ideal, but full stats, nice write up, easily laid out and a nice read otherwise - I like it!

There may not be as many excellent photos as say a Stadium Club, but there are still some standouts to me at least. Ronnie in the centre is one standout as I just like the different overhead angle shot.

We even get a couple of Jays cards with Halladay and Bautista. If you are getting a couple Jays of the time, that would be the two to get!

Had Been Meaning To...

In 1994-96, Parkhurst came out with a very retro set which was the 1966-67 set - which was obviously a set for that year. The look was done to the period, but on much better cardstock than you would get back then. What we end up with is a set, I hadn't been collecting, but as soon as I had some of the cards, knew I'd be happy to add it to the list....which we are doing today.

A great design with my only complaint being the repetitive use of the faded background images. Otherwise, love the fronts, and getting all the Leaf cards - excellent. ALl in abhout 25 keepers today...

Given the year in question, of course you get a 150 card set that focuses on original six teams, so plenty of Leaf content to get along with the others.

Great stars, and with so few teams, you have some subsets to fill out the 150 cards including my favourite...

Really like the look of those award winner cards! There are some duplicates as well, so let's see some backs...

As I say, the card stock is the big difference. Being a miod-90s print, the cards are nice and solid, no frayed sides, soft corners, etc. Sure, it would be nice to have decent condition cards from the 60s, but I'll happily take a cheaper alternative with these.

A solid start...just hoping there is another bunch or two from this set in the rest of the COVID lot.

Assorted Puck

Just as it states, a day of COVID lot pulls which are all hockey....early 90s if you are looking for a time frame.

I definitely don't need any more 1992-93 Series 2 Parrhurst cards. That part of the set is done, though I need a fair amount of series 1 still.

That said, I will take the additional Mironov Leaf card, so that's a plus. As for the 1991-92 Upper Deck cards, I am collecting both variations and am missing a bunch of non-tewxt ones, which are what we have here, so 7 new for me cards isn't too shabby.

We then end with the overwhelming dud (personally) of the early 90sw Pro Set sets...1992-93. I mean 1990-91 was such an error fest, it was so bad it was good. 1991-92 is what I grew into the hobby with, so it will always have a special place with me, 1992-93 is just seeming to be something Pro Set was not....

AH well.....less than 2 weeks left for busy season...time sure feels like it's running out.

Can You Help?

Yes - an interest post of a few cards from the COVID lot, with my main purpose to see if anyone has any ideas about the first pair.

I have absolutely no idea who's signature that is. Now, I know that a "BRAT" is reference to a child of someone who was in the military, but not sure if that has any merit in this signature. Also, no idea what the name is supposed to be, so appreciate any guesses from people out there, or other thoughts. I have no real interest in the card from a personal collection stand point, but it's just an interesting couple cards to come across, and I'd like to know, as it may impact who would actually want these cards.

Now as unique and interesting as those are, another interesting one which I am keeping...

A nice unopened pack of 1991 Post Canada Super Star Series. I remember getting these in cereal boxes, and I have some of the cards, but an unopened pack...I did not have. Didn't think I would be able to add an unopened pack to the collection from this lot, but there you have it. If interested, the two cards )since you can see them) are Davis and Clemens.

Last up...we haven't seen too many older hockey cards...

So a 1977-78 O Pee Chee Guy is a great pick up for trade. I definitely need a bunch of Leaf cards from the 70s, so should be able to turn him into one or two that I can keep for my Leaf collection.

Some times it doesn't take a bunch of cards to have an exciting day of pulls from a lot!

Showing It All

So, usually when I go through ards from this lot, I will pull and not show the Boston Bruins cards I am not keeping, and for baseball, the Montreal Expos cards. This is because they have a predestined home, and since I know their owners do watch and read the blog, I like keeping it a surprise until they get the cards...well for the most part. Today, the couple Bruins cards are here though...

All in - nothing here for me to keep as these aren't sets I am working on, no error cards, no Leafs, A Kovalev Young Gun isn't a bad pick up though.

My one keeper today is the Linden card from 1995-96 Ultra....but that's it. As for 1996-97 Pinnacle Summit...that set still confuses me with the designs. I don't know why, shouldn't be that hard, but it does...especially in the last stretch of busy season...

Never going to complain about getting traders like Selanne and Lindros...easy movers indeed.

A decent enough bunch of hockey cards, just mostly not for me. I can see tomorrow will definitely not be all hockey cards to post...just one...and a few others...interesting....

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Back to a random assortment of hockey cards from the COVID lot today - which turns out pretty nicely I must say...

Hard to tell by scan, but those first two are Tiffany Scoring Leader inserts from the 1990-91 O Pee Chee set. Definitely a great start. As for the 1991-92 O Pee Chee to follow, nice, but a set I have completed, along with the Sharks & Russians insert set highlighted in the bottom row.

A handful of 1991-92 Upper Deck keepers which comes down to the hologram as I am putting together both sets. Why? I don't know really....but I am!

The Eddie look great with the mask highlighted, and of could a Pearson Young Gun isn't a valuable card, but a solid pick up for me....4th copy from the looks of it.

Another nice dupe Leaf pick up with Dave, and we end with some 1999-2000 O Pee Chee cards and the...baby poo colour border which makes the set a bit too unattractive for my liking. Does mean those are up for grabs if anyone is interested!
