Sometimes a name becomes synonymous with a single player. Gretzky - everyone thinks of Wayne, Lindros, everyone will think of Eric. Not just hockey that this happens with - think Jordan, Bryant, Ruth, Bonds, it's all sports.
It must make it hard for players coming up with a similar last name.
Victor has absolutely no relation to Tuukka Rask, but the last name being the same, you do wonder how that plays into how well he is remembered. Tuukka may not be on the level of a Gretzky, but I think he had a strong enough career that he would be the number one ranked Rask in hockey, maybe in all sports.
I guess it's one thing to be a sibling or son/daughter and have the last name issue, it's a completely different one if you just so happened to have the same last name of a star, starting a career knowing it would be hard to be the first person with that last name to come to mind for fans. Brent may never be the first Gretzky to come to mind when thinking about NHL hockey, but he does hold the record of most combined points by simblings - though Wayne carrier most of the weight on that one!
