1988 Fleer Baseball Update

Today, we will go through a bigger chunk of cards. I will split this up into 2 pieces though. Today, the base set, tomorrow the stickers.

Yes, we get the awesome tin, so this at one point was complete. I wasn't sure at first if it would be the set, or just a container, but it is the set. That said, I'll show what is included of the base set, and will list the "MIA" cards at the end.

As you can see, some of the cards seem a bit faded or light printed, but it is consistent, and cards that are in the middle of runs, so I think it is just the way they were printed, not actual wear.

So for the missing cards...
U-65 through U-69 - The Toronto Blue Jays Section
U-74 - John Smoltz
U-77 - Mark Grace
U-89 - Craig Biggio
U-122 - Roberto Alomar

This doesn't work too badly as I do have all the Jays already, and Mark Grace, so that leaves me with 3 missing cards, so will have to add those to my most wanted list.

Wait a second...I take that back. All the cards here are the glossy version. I have all except Wells for the Jays in a glossy version, but none of the others...so I still need:

U-69, U-74, U-77, U-89, and U-122.

I am going to assume none of these will be in the rest of the cards and they were pulled with purpose, but only time will tell.

Since the stickers aren't really part of the set, but part of the base set, but a number come with this box, will add those in maybe day after tomorrow and see where we are at.

  1. This is the first time I'm seeing about 90% of these cards, other than the parker and a couple others, so thanks for scanning them all.

    1. My pleasure. You never know what people have and haven't seen, and there's always the chance someone sees a gem they didn't know about before.

  2. Always a favorite set of mine. Great players and plenty of favorite of mine from the era. Bob Horner, Chili Davis, Brett Butler, Rafael Ramirez to name a few. Good looking cards. Most of these I haven't seen before. Good post.

  3. I'm not 100% sure... but I think the glossy set was exclusive to the tins. Well... that's how it worked in 1987. Fleer should have done more zoomed out action shots. The Dibble and Griffin are fantastic.

    1. The zoom out would have definitely helped in a number of cases.
