Once again, Archives let's you either love, or complain about the three different base designs used with the throwback to various times in Topps history. I am not going to go through all the cards, but a front and back scan for each section to show the designs, and discuss.
The first hundred cards of the base set are 1958 design inspired. Definitely a good representation of the design, and I really enjoy the backs much more than the fronts personally.
1975 Topps is the second hundred and though I am not a big fan of some of the dual colour combinations used on the fronts, the backs are a close second to 1958 in this set.
The last third of the set is 1993 Topps inspired, and to be honest, the first thing I noticed that bothered me - the numbers for the cards on the back are smaller than the original. I don't know if it's because of my vision problem, but this just stuck out to me and not in a good way. I do prefer it most though for the full stats compared to the others.
Although there is near 50% of the set here, it's not a set that enthuses me enough to collect, so most are up for trade...except these...
All are additional copies for me as I do have copies already, but three Jays for the set is a solid pick up for me.
The 1958-inspired cards look really nice all around.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like Max Scherzer's got a glass eye. Different-colored eyes makes for a cool photograph.
