Marquee for me

On a wrestling note - amazing to see Daniel Bryan cleared for in-ring action after two years. If you haven't seen his heart felt speech for coming back which started off Smackdown last night, well worth watching - can tear a guy up.

I hope he takes it easy to start (yeah - didn't really work out that way by the end of the show), and really, just gets to a major events and some TV show type position. I would rather have a half time Daniel Bryan for 5-10 more years than a full time Daniel Bryan for a few months.

Oh yeah....cards....

Highlights:

Slow continuance of the completion towards 2008-09 O Pee Chee today. A decent enough highlight. As for Pineault....talk about a cup of coffee in the NHL. His career line includes three games, that's it. I know not all players chosen for base set rookie card design can be winners, so I guess the up side is he did play in the NHL. A mark many baseball players don't reach regarding the majors.

I don't know why I really like the Andre Miller card with the basketball such a focus on the card, but the angle makes it really a cool card in my opinion. Otherwise, a nice Calderon Raptors card too.

The title has nothing to do with the good that I have to share today...

Highlight:

This marks 31 of 50 cards from the set, all of which have come from the Santa Lot. Best guess...I get to 40 before it is all said and done?

Lowlights:


Austin Powers cards, because I needed more of these things. As the title suggests, now up to 309 of them, but not a complete set yet, not that it would particularly matter.

Being a Player

Highlights:

I am starting to like this set more and more, the more cards I get. It is another one of those base sets with a bunch of short print.rookie, etc cards at the end. For the 300 cards, my goal would be the true base of 200. At least today, I am knocking off card number 200 (Semin).

A complete set pick up

I wanted to share a complete set pick up I got off of Listia not too long ago. Rather than scan myself, I borrowed the following pics for TCDB since they are the same, and unopened.


This is the 1997 Esso Olympic Hockey Heroes set. From a quick look around, it seems this was a one off done by Esso as I couldn't find a similar set they did. There were some hockey cards from the 80s for Esso, but no Olympic binder like this.

Not sure if you really consider these cards or not since they are larger - they fit a two ring binder - roughly 5" by 7". They were released in weekly updates for the binder...



I picked up the set for about $6US with free shipping, so couldn't get it much cheaper. It isn't otherwise something that really fits my collection, other than calling it a neat oddball I guess.

A bit surprising on who is included and who isn't but since the packs are unopened, and I am going to keep that that way, I will never know if I lucked out and had one of the 10,000 autographed ones they tout on the front of the packs.

An interesting little set to be sure.

Only a few cards, but a lot of goodie out of it. Really love the Tombstone Pizza Olerud oddball card. Never seen it before. The 2001 Upper Deck Decade cards are nice as well, as these I also had never seen before. It's amazing how much is still out there and relatively old that I just don't know about in cards. I may not actively search it out, but nice to have it find me!

My First Booklet

So here it is...

This is my first booklet card, and it came in a trade with TCDB member wbaker01. I had a lot of cards he needed for sets, and I ended up sending out I believe, a 660 count box. In exchange, he sent a small package back. Honestly, I was happy to get rid of a bunch of cards as is my goal this year, but if I was getting something back, getting less than I gave up was great.

Being my first, I will have to figure out the best way to store it. I was to enjoy it, so just having it closed and in a case seems like a waste, but not sure having it just open on  shelf is the best either....any thoughts?

Even better is what I got since I was not expecting anything like this. The booklet wasn't the only card sent, though it was the highlight for me.


This add is great as my 1981 Topps Toronto team set is now reduced to just needing card 488 - Damasco Garcia's card.

1982 Topps was also brought down on the Toronto Team set, cutting my needs in half with...


The cards sent also finished off a couple insert type sets...


These finish a second copy of the Diamond King cards (I have a full 1990 base set now, and a second copy of these), though I ended up doubling up in trades on a couple of the cards here, but not to worry on that one, and also finished off the 1990 Donruss MVP insert set as well. The score cards move that team set along as well (to go with the 1990 base set I have).

Getting back to hockey...

These give me two of the three 1984-85 Topps Leaf base cards, and the only 1989-90 Topps Sticker insert for the Leafs.

Mostly, a bunch of Leaf needs, but also one O Pee Chee insert need from the early 90s Russians. I will say, I didn't even know about the Electric Ice inserts back in the 90s. Wasn't until seeing them in trading getting back into the hobby a few years ago that I knew they existed. Glad to pick up here, as well as the sweet SN to 100 Kaberle as well.

Overall, I am glad to have done the trade, reduced the cards in the collection, while getting some really nice, and unexpected cards in return for the collection! Oh, and my first booklet card...woo hoo!

Pack Attack - 1992 Fleer Baseball

This may not be a full pack, this came out of one of those multipack boxes - I think it may have been a TriStar product. Either way, we have part of a rack pack to open today.


Yeah, not the prettiest of packaging, but the cards are in fine shape. I have about 190 pf the 720 cards in the base set.

So we end up 13 cards which are...


I think the design would have received more ire if it wasn't the year after the yellow set of 1991 Fleer. I don't mind the name contrast as it is erasy to read, though it takes up way too much space.


Okay, even though it takes up too much space, the Assenmacher name makes it still look really squished. At least we get an Expo since no Jays...


Unfortunately did end up with a couple dupes, but at least one card for the error collection which was...


In the text on the back, instead of the word pitcher, the word patcher is used. I assume this was missed by spell check back in the day as "patcher" is also a word.

Actually, the way this pack looked, it looks like it was worked on by a patcher...

A double dose of...well...this...

Not sure how enjoyable this will be, but let's get rid of...I mean...open....the last couple packs of Triple Play I have. For those who don't know the product, leave now and save yourself.

Let's suffer with 2012 first...


Actually, before I show them...I actually have about 60 base cards from this set some how. I guess I should blame Fairfield repacks for that.


Not much to say about these except....flaming balls...

Well, I didn't have any of these at all - not sure if it is good or bad that I will be holding onto them then, but that is what it is.

Let's move on to 2013...


This pack should double my base cards since I happily only had 5 before this pack.


Well, all new again, and no Jays again. If there are any redeemable qualities of the set, I will give the All Star insert a pass. The cards are decent enough and I can overcome the lack of actual photo for those inserts.

Well...I guess these could have been worse for what they are, but let this be a warning for anyone who hasn't seen these.
