These Are My Bills

Today, another bunch of 1991 Pro Set football cards, which also just so happen to cover the Buffalo Bills which really are, the Bills I cared about for the time I somewhat followed football as a kid.

1991 was the first year the Bills made the Super Bowl - which they went on to do again in each of the next three years. Getting to the Super Bowl 4 years in a row is an amazing feat. Even more amazing of course that they lost all 4.

Jim Kelly was a great QB for the team and able to lead them to the big game, but really, it was only this first year that the game was fairly close. Dan Marino is absolutely the best QB to never win a Super Bowl, and Jim Kelly may not be right behind him, but is a really good QB to have not one the big one...though he got to the door those 4 times.

Andre Reed and Bruce Smith were great weapons for the teams as well. These cards bring back good memories of the team....yeah, except those losses.

Marv Levy coached Buffalo through all 4 losses, and on through 1997, so wasn't let go becuase of not winning the big one. He spent 12 of his 17 years coaching in the NFL, with Buffalo

We end with some Falcons, which include Neon Deion. Ah, the two star athlete. Always wondered if someone was giving up being greater in one sport by trying to be really good at two. When I think of two sport athletes, the first two that come to mind are Deion and Bo Jackson. Fun times the late 80s and early 90s.

So much football - let's tack on something more up my collection alley - set help from the card seppola10 provided.

The Mikka is a little beat up. I'll take it for now, but wouldn't mind replacing it. The rest are early 90s set helpers...

1990-91 O Pee Chee is a set I have slowly worked on for a number of years, just never really been a priority, but now it's just down to a few cards.

2008-09 Upper Deck Masterpieces is probably in the top 3 favourite hockey sets ever for me. I just love the look and feel of the cards, the star power of who is in it (even if they repeat players, the cards are different), it is a small set at only 87 cards, and it's just well done, even if there are no stats on the back.

Iconic faces, and iconic shots with the Stanley Cup. These, I believe, knock my needs down to three cards for the base set.

It's a bit cheaty to call these set help, as I just collect all wrestling cards. That said, the 1987 design works nicely.

X-Pac...even on cards, it's not that I cheer or boo, or really like or hate...it's like when you wrestled, especially with the X-Factor faction...I just don't care. Sorry.

  1. Even though they never won, those Super Bowl Bills teams will always have a special place in the hearts of Buffalo fans!

  2. I've never been a football fan, but if I was I'd have an easy team to root for!

  3. Those Bills teams were so awesome. Shame they couldn't win one... but the fact that they went to four straight Super Bowls is very, very, very, very impressive. And I love those Falcons teams too.
